A Christmas Legacy Born in My Grandmother’s Living Room
I was raised by my grandmother, a woman whose heart was made of pure Christmas spirit. She taught me that the true meaning of the season lives in small moments. Warm kitchens. Kind hands. Long nights wrapping simple gifts with big love. Soft lights glowing in the window. The way a home feels when love fills every room.
My grandmother believed that kindness is a form of healing. She believed that Christmas was an invitation to be better, to give more, and to remember those who felt forgotten. Growing up under her guidance shaped the way I see people, the way I serve, and the way I show up in the world.
Her love was the first gift I ever received. Her example became the foundation of my life’s work. When I was younger, seeing Santa was one of the highlights of Christmas. Even then, I wondered how it would feel to give others that same joy.
Why I Became Santa Claus for the Less Fortunate
As I grew older, her teachings stayed with me. I wanted to carry that warmth forward into the world, so I put on the red suit, tied the black boots, and stepped into the role of Santa Claus.
I visited families who were struggling.
I visited children in hospitals.
I visited places where joy was needed the most.
I watched the way a child’s eyes lit up when Santa walked into the room. It was more than excitement. It was relief. Hope. A moment where the weight of their world lifted and the magic returned.
I realized then that joy is medicine. And sometimes, the gift we give others becomes the healing we give ourselves.

Toys 4 Joy’s was created from that place in my heart. It is a continuation of my grandmother’s legacy and a promise I made to myself years ago. If I was ever in a position to help others, especially during the holidays, I would do it with everything I had.
